The Margheria plot covers 0.4 ha. The excellent western exposure, favorable microclimate, ideal soil type, and young vine age contribute to producing grapes of excellent quality.
Harvested in mid-October, the grapes are hand-picked into perforated baskets for transport to the cellar. The grape yield per hectare is 80 quintals.
Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks temperature-controlled at 28°C with frequent daily pumping over for a total of 12-15 days. After the tumultuous fermentation, a submerged cap fermentation follows for 15 days to ensure complete extraction of tannins and aromas. The wine is then placed in new 20-hectoliter oak barrels where it remains for 5 years. No filtration is performed, and the wine further ages in the bottle.
The Margheria Barolo displays a beautiful, intense ruby color and a complex and mellow nose with hints of red berry fruit and spice. On the palate, it admirably combines the sumptuous richness of its texture with surprising complexity, a sour cherry with great pulpiness; the finish is long and consistent, slightly warmed by excellent alcohol.
