PATRUNET

Roero is a unique and pure land, a bizarre corner of hills that were once underwater, eroded here and there, forming canyons through which you can peek at the layers of rock on which they rest. In the evening, the "rocks" turn red. We grow Nebbiolo because it is precisely from this unique environment and the culture of those who have worked it for centuries that it acquires the pure and singular character that gives our Roero DOCG wine its prestige.

Where it's grown

Vigna Violi is terraced. Arranging the rows is the only way to make the most of the Roero's merciless slopes. Here, the buzz of bees keeps us company: they frequent the rows we leave, which fill with flowers in spring. Not only do we not uproot them, but when the weather permits, we even sow them! The red poppies keep us cheerful: "No weeding, more papatu!" [ no herbicides, more poppies! ]. Every now and then, even the rhythmic thump of a few boots walking the Sentiero del Tasso interrupts the effort required by such an uncomfortable vineyard, reminding us how beautiful and precious the places where we work are.

How it's made

It's no coincidence that Roero is the name of this wine and, at the same time, of the territory where it is produced. On these rugged hills, for centuries, the Nebbiolo grape has found the perfect place to express its character. The first to sprout, the last to be harvested; protecting it from early frosts and pests requires hard work and care. These efforts continue in the cellar, with a wooden passage to tame it, at least a little, and allow the tantalizing aroma of red fruits and the light hint of licorice and vanilla on the finish to express themselves.

How to drink it

Many people around a table where a platter of grilled meats shuttles from one end to the other, or a rich cheese reigns supreme, and everyone reaches out: here, Roero is the perfect wine to color the glasses a cheerful orange-red. But it also thrives far from the hustle and bustle; a good book, a piece of chocolate, and the enveloping spicy flavor of Roero are all the company you need.
